Hardscape FAQ

Straight answers to the questions we hear most about materials, timelines, maintenance, and pricing.

What materials do you use for Montana weather?

We prioritize high-density concrete pavers and natural stone like Montana flagstone. These materials are chosen for their low absorption rates, meaning they won't crack or flake under the intense freeze-thaw cycles of the Flathead Valley.

What are the typical project timelines?

Standard patios and walkways usually take 1–2 weeks once the base preparation is complete. Larger projects like full paver driveways or multi-tiered retaining walls can range from 3–6 weeks depending on site access and earthwork requirements.

How do your builds handle frost heave?

The secret is in the base. We excavate deep and use specific gradations of compacted gravel and sand to ensure drainage. This allows the assembly to move as a single unit without the rigid cracking issues seen in poured concrete.

What kind of maintenance is required?

Hardscapes are low-maintenance. We recommend seasonal cleaning and checking polymeric sand joints every few years. Sealing is optional but can enhance color and protect against oil stains or heavy salt exposure.

How do pricing and estimates work?

Estimates are based on square footage, the cost of selected materials, and the extent of site preparation. After an on-site visit to assess grading and access, we provide a detailed quote with no hidden fees.

What factors affect the overall cost?

The biggest variables are site accessibility for heavy machinery, any required drainage solutions, and the specific material chosen. Flagstone often requires more labor-intensive hand-fitting than modular pavers.
